Columns | That Was Junk

Columns

We may have “the best movie reviews ever written,” but sometimes we like to do more than just review movies.  Every once in awhile, we get the urge to talk about something else besides what we just watched.  It could be about how stupid people on the iMDb boards are, or how The Oscars are silly trash, or how the stupid comments people make in movie theaters are actually really awesome.  Whatever it is, we’re going to go ahead and call these “columns.”  Sometimes it’ll be organized, other times it’ll be incoherent madness.  Regardless, take a look at what we have so far…

Things I Hate

Kyle tends to hate a lot of things, and when it comes to movies, it’s no different.  This column is dedicated to anything movie-related that angers and infuriates him.  Follow his hatred here.

Volume 1 – “Oh that’s not realistic…”
Volume 2 – Wet Streets
Volume 3 – Baseball Editing

Boom From the Past

Not so much a “column,” but a special little thing Josh will do every once in awhile.  On any particular day he doesn’t watch a movie this year , he’ll turn back in his archives to talk about whatever movie(s) he watched on the same day one year ago.  This won’t be done on every day he doesn’t watch a movie this year, but rather, when he feels like it.  Which is rarely.  So feel blessed when he BOOMs from the past!

April 18 - Lone Wolf and Cub:  Sword of Vengeance
May 28 – S. Darko
Sept. 13 – Sorority Row
Oct. 4 – Mac, The Story

Not Looking Forward To…

Another hub of negativity.  Here, any one of us will bitch and moan about a movie that’s coming out, general movie trends we think suck, or anything movie related that we’re not looking forward to.  Curious as to why we wish 3-D would go away?  Or why we think a Spiderman reboot is insane?  This is the place to learn more.

Volume 2 – More Sports Movies (via Josh)
Volume 3 – The Future of Comedy (via Dave)
Volume 4 – Remakes and/or Reboots (via Josh)

24-Hour Movie Marathon Coverage

Every few months we get together with friends and spend 24 hours watching movies.  It’s quite a festivity.  While it’s always more fun to attend one, we’ll try and cover each one as best we can.  This should be a good place to find some “great to watch with a group” movie recommendations.  Join us.

My Favorite Movies

Everyone has a list of movies they would categorize as their “favorite” movies.  Some peoples lists are larger than others, and I think it’s safe to say we each fit that category.  Every once in awhile when we re-watch some of our favorites, we’ll go a little further than a simple review of the movie.  We’ll take the time to go a little deeper and explain why it’s so special to us and why it’s one of our favorite movies of all time.  You may not agree with our choices or our reasons for liking these movies (and hey, we probably won’t agree with each other either), but that’s part of the fun.

Volume 1 – Rushmore
Volume 2 – Happiness
Volume 3 – Shaun of the Dead
Volume 4 – The Big Lebowski
Volume 5 – The Shining
Volume 6 -  Sunset Boulevard
Volume 7 – Jurassic Park

Overheard Opinions

It happens all the time. Before a movie starts, after it lets out, at work, at holiday dinners, wherever. You overhear or listen in on someone’s conversation about movies and their opinion just blows your mind. Or at least makes you laugh to yourself and you tell your friends later. That is essentially how this one works. We hear great opinions and we bring them here for everyone’s enjoyment. Come join us as we share and discuss these excellent moments in movie opinion history.

A Series Review

Every once in a while, a movie studio will decide that a movie is so good, and made them so much money, the public deserves something for embracing this phenomenally successful piece of entertainment. So, they will reassemble the cast and crew of said movie, and assign them to make something similar to the original product, but different enough that people will want to pay to see it. This is a sequel.

The Director’s Chair

This here is where we take a look at the head honcho’s of movie-making:  directors.  And not just the big names.  Cuz what kind of fun would it be to only talk about Scorsese or Spielberg or Godard or whatever jerks that people obsess over?  None!  That’s been done to death.  Sure, we’ll take a look at some big names and important folks, but there’s other people out there making movies (ie, M NIGHT SHYAMALAN).  So, once one of us watches every movie by a particular director, we’ll fire off an epic post that not only ranks said director’s movies based on our tastes, but we’ll tell you why they suck or why they’re great.  Or both.

A Second Time Around

This here column is dedicated to re-watches.  Most particularly, re-watches that cause us  to have a far different opinion than we originally had.  Maybe it’s a movie one of us saw only one time and we either loved or hated it.  Maybe it’s a movie from our childhood we remember growing up on.  Or it was just a movie we thought was totally whatever.  Regardless of what the initial opinion was,  we re-visited these movies for one reason or another and our opinions were greatly changed.  So if you’re one of those weirdo’s who thinks you only ever need to see a movie once, well then use this list as evidence that you should suck it.
